Round 9: who did and who did not live up to expectations?

Let’s have a look at how well each driver did in the previous round.

Top performers

Nyck de Vries

At his “home” round (the closest race to the Netherlands) he led every session, with a big margin in qualifying and a mature win in the feature race. He suffered on the final lap of the sprint race but cleverly held Markelov behind him at the last corner.

Lando Norris

The Briton eats into Russell’s lead overall: after having to settle for fourth behind the ART driver in the feature race, Norris made a steady recovery to second in the sprint race while his rival faltered.

Flop performers

Antonio Fuoco

He was the most affected by Charouz’s bad weekend, finishing amongst the final runners in both races, havign stalled in the sprint race when he stopped to avoid hitting Boccolacci.

Sean Gelael

He only beat the newcomers in qualifying, and only the struggling Charouz pair in the feature race (while Nissany scored a point, proving the opportunity was there). He was the only retirement in the sprint race, but it didn’t look like it robbed him of a good result.
