Driver changes

After round 4 in the United Kingdom, Trident replaced Rigon with Gonzalez and David Price Racing replaced Ricci with Perera.
After round 5 in Germany, Trident replaced Gonzalez with Rigon.
After round 6 in Hungary, Addax replaced Grosjean with Valsecchi and Durango replaced Valsecchi with Coletti.
After round 8 in Belgium, David Price Racing replaced Perera with Cecotto.

Team changes

After round 6 in Hungary, Fisichella Motor Sport were renamed Coloni.
Coloni skipped round 8 in Belgium due to financial problems.
Durango skipped round 9 in Italy and round 10 in Portugal due to financial problems.

Calendar

The 2009 season included 10 rounds, 9 of which supporting the F1 Grands Prix held at the same venue on the same weekend. All races were held in Europe.
