2016 calendar finally revealed

Sepang returns, Baku will host its first GP2 event together with its first ever Formula 1 race.

For the first time since 2010, the GP2 season will start in Barcelona. The Circuit de Catalunya had since been anticipated by Istanbul Park, in 2011, and Sepang or Sakhir in the following years. This season, Sakhir is dropped from the calendar, as is Sochi: the early dates of the two Grands Prix, with the Russian moved from October to May, were difficult to fit in this year’s delayed preparations. Instead, the Malaysian Grand Prix, swapped with the Russian GP and moved from March to October, was inserted to fill in the lengthy wait between the last of the European rounds in Monza and the championship-concluding event in Yas Marina. The wait between Sepang and the round in the Emirates is still almost two months, though.

Alongside GP2 in nine of the eleven events will be GP3: the feeder series will not be in Monaco or in Baku.
