Nasr wins his first race in Barcelona

Felipe Nasr, Barcelona 2014
A cool race by Nasr saw him take his maiden win

Felipe Nasr ended his run of 49 races without a win and preceded Palmer and Dillmann to the chequered flag.

Polesitter Dillmann did not have a brilliant getaway but avoided wheelspin and held the lead as those who started well, Nasr and Haryanto, settled behind him. Ellinas dropped to 6th, and Haryanto had to retire after contact with Palmer. Dillmann wasn’t showing the same pace as Nasr and Palmer, who both got past time within a few laps; but as the Brazilian did not run away, the Briton was still chasing him down, while Dillmann slowly dropped down in the clutches of Pic.

But it was Evans who suffered more from tyre degradation: his sixth place was in danger from around lap 15 when Cecotto tried a daring move on the outside of turn 1 but was forced wide. The Venezuelan then repeated the move around turn 13, after failing to get past at turn 10, a couple of laps later. At this point the New Zealander quickly dropped down and was simultaneously passed by Richelmi and Coletti, one on the inside and one of the outside of the first corner. Ellinas wasted the occasion and took no risks by staying behind him, but in turn he was passed by Quaife-Hobbs and Vandoorne with brilliant moves on the outside of turn 4, thus dropping out of the top 10.

Palmer couldn’t get any closer to Nasr and even locked both front tyres going  into turn 1, cutting through and definitively giving up on the win. Dillmann was pursued by Pic but the pair stayed put without risking of throwing their race in the bin.

It is Felipe Nasr‘s first race win at his 50th attempt, and comes after 11 podiums. Palmer, in the meanwhile, has finished on the podium in every race so far.
